There is so much talk about the risk of being visible in life and on social media. From being judged, misunderstood, criticised, embarrassed or even not feeling comfortable taking space online.
But what I have noticed, is that no one talks about risk of being invisible.
As a female commercial brand photographer & videographer based in Sussex, Brighton and Hove, I look around and I see purpose driven, big-hearted women in business with a powerful gift and message to be shared.
But they are invisible online.
They are hiding behind the logo, stock images, inspiring quotes shared on the Instagram grid with no pictures of them showing who is behind the brand.
This makes me sad.
Here, I propose a solution:
Rather than worrying about the risk of being visible, let’s acknowledge what you lose by being invisible and what you can gain by being a little bit more visible:
1. You lose the opportunity to share your passion and powerful message with others.
2. You lose the opportunity to show yourself as an expert matter.
3. You lose the opportunity to connect with like-minded individuals, followers & potential clients.
4. You lose the opportunity to belong to or build your own community.
5. You lose the opportunity to drive sales and grow your business.
It’s time to stop hiding!
When you decide to step up, play bigger and be highly visible, it can often feel terrifying because you are pushing yourselves completely out of your comfort zone.
I have been there!
My own visibility journey
I struggled myself to be visible on social media when I become a professional brand portrait photographer and videographer a few years ago.
I was:
too shy to upload a picture of me,
too scared to have my own brand photo session,
too nervous to share my first posts or stories on social media,
not mentioning pressing the video record button and introducing myself.
