Meet Mara, a trauma informed yoga teacher from Brighton who booked my signature personal brand portrait photoshoot package: up to 1.5 hours together in one location (Devils Dyke, Sussex Country side, only 10 minutes car drive from Brighton and Hove). She had a few outfit changes and some gentle visibility guidance from me on the day of the photoshoot.
As a Brighton based professional portrait photographer I love working with female entrepreneurs in the health and wellness industry because it’s an area I am very passionate about since I left my 9-5 corporate job in finance.
As a brand photographer my intention is to capture a ton of visual content (photos & videos) to help you with your online visibility for your new website and social media posts/videos.
As an empath I do it in a gentle way, by capturing relaxed soulful and natural looking brand portraits and headshots.
outdoor Brand photoshoot location inspiration in brighton
Most yoga teachers would chose the yoga studio or gym as a location for a professional portrait photoshoot but Mara wanted to do something different, unique and authentic.
She includes the connection with nature into her yoga practice so we hoped into my car and drove from Brighton to the Sussex countryside (Devils Dyke) for her outdoor brand portrait photo session.
Nature has therapeutic, healing and grounding qualities. As an empath, introvert and sensitive soul I always find myself relaxing more during outdoor photoshoots. And I see the same effect on my clients.
There are so many location you can choose from for your upcoming portrait photoshoot, here are my 10 favourite location suggestions within Brighton area.
This is what we captured during the outdoor brand portrait photo session
Mara is an advance yoga teacher and dancer hence we decided to capture her doing yoga in nature, embodiment movements and meditating. These were the more professional shots to showcase to potential clients the range of her experience and expertise as a yoga teacher.
We also took advantage of the situation to capture Mara in some other ways: working on her laptop, journaling, reading her favourite book with a sunset background, bare foot walking. These are some of the things she likes practice and she hopes it will inspire others too.
Plan and schedule your portrait photoshoot around your energy level
We decided to have a photoshoot outdoors, in nature, in the afternoon as Mara feels much more energised later afternoon.
Scheduling your photoshoot around your energy level and menstrual cycle is something I am very passionate about. I wrote another blog about how to pan your brand portrait photo session around your menstrual cycle in case you want to learn more.
Say no to boring traditional business headshots
We move, we walk, we even dance if you feel like.
Rather than staring at the camera and posing during the photoshoot we aimed for relaxed, authentic and “in the moment” pictures of her, including shooting some traditional business headshots which she can use as profile pictures on LinkedIn, Facebook or Instagram.
Movement helps to move the energy, which makes you feel relaxed in front of the camera and importantly helps you look more natural on the pictures.
