Your new super power is a growth mind-set!
Or at least it will be, once you’ve read this article.
Many of us are embracing the challenges of this year by finding new ways of succeeding and growing our business.
What is a growth mindset?
Good examples of adopting a growth mindset are:
pivoting an offline business to online
becoming more visible on social media
launching a new website
re-branding
adapting to ever-changing restrictions
or trying something completely new.
That’s a growth mindset.
I’ve been impressed by my clients based in Sussex, Brighton & Hove. They’re adopting a growth mindset by moving out of their comfort zones and having a brand portrait photo session with me in these uncertain times.
In fact, everyone has had to make changes over the past few months to embrace the growth mindset: teachers, nurses, leaders, politicians, mothers, business owners.
Have you faced up to the situation or are you hiding away?
I have developed a growth mindset myself, thanks to my old career (before I fell in love with portrait photography). I used to work (for 11 years) in a big corporate company where I would often have a new boss, or new job title or team.
I will never forget the time when the company went through two series of restructuring in a short time of space. With no warnings, no preparation, no choice and no training, all employees including myself had been asked to learn and adapt to new ways without warning.
I did not realise I had the capability to do that until I faced these new challenges.
Meet your therapist, Jo
Meet Jo who is offering accessible and private mental health support in-person or NOW from the comfort of your home.
Jo works creatively, informed by humanistic philosophy, Gestalt, Person-centred & TA theory. This means she believes every person has worth, the right to autonomy (to decide their own future) and that a person should feel safe and secure in order to explore their sense of self.
If a person is provided with the right conditions for growth, they'll always move towards change.
Jo is so passionate about helping others.
She believes that therapy needs to be accessible.
If her clients are not able to come to her private therapy office, zoom online sessions are available: kemptowncounselling.co.uk
For that reason, Jo decided to go ahead with brand photo session to become more visible and reflect the online aspect of her offering.
“Primarily, I want to be known for an excellent reputation and that I offer real value to my clients in their life. To continue to attract the type of clients that work well with me. To be seen for my authentic, unapologetic self. To launch my podcast & empower others by using my voice to promote wellbeing.”
These snippets from our conversation helped me understand and created the perfect brand images of Jo in line with her authentic voice and business vision.
Brand photo session designing with a growth mindset approach.
Jo booked her indoor & outdoor brand portrait photoshoot at the beginning of this year. We had to reschedule the session a few times to accommodate the lockdown restrictions.
It gave us a lot of time to design the brand photo session including:
Reflecting Jo values: authenticity, boldness and creativity:
Authenticity: This is about my realness to show up as my authentic self. I permit and allow myself to be unedited and to find my voice in my arena.
Boldness: Cultivating my authenticity through 'Project Bold'. To be unapologetic about myself. To trust in the process and have courage in everything I do.
Creativity: Not just in the sense of creating art, it's inclusive of creative adjustment - a willingness to shift, adapt and challenge myself in new ways.
Location of the photo session:
Indoor: Jo therapy office near Brighton university, university of Sussex, the city centre and Brighton train station.
Outdoor: go for a walk to the nearest green area and park.
Brand colours as they are very important to my clients:
I believe colours set a tone and connection. For that reason, Jo has chosen her new brand colours to evoke calm, simplicity, safety and warmth: green and ochre/mustard are my favourite colours.
Behind the scene of the brand portrait Photosession with Jo
We waited patiently for a green light from the government to go ahead with the photo session.
We picked a beautiful sunny day which lit up the cosy therapy room. The big window offers so much natural light, exactly what I loved to work with on the day.
We dedicated first hour to capture Jo in her natural environment, behind the laptop, journaling, reading her favourite book, on the zoom call with clients.
I strongly believe when you are in your zone, doing what you love the most, suddenly you forget about me and my camera and you automatically relax.
Second part of the brand photoshoot we dedicated to go outside, to the nature as Jo believes in healing qualities of nature.
“Part of my personal ethos is that nature can truly be a healer. I spend lots of time outdoors”.
It might feel stressful and overwhelming at the beginning to face camera hence we do not rush. We take time to get to know each other, to get use to me and my camera and that’s how the magic happens.
