Yoga retreat photography at Innerbloom yoga studio Brighton

What do yoga practice and online business visibility have in common?

They’re both like a muscle that must be repetitively worked in order to progress, grow, and become strong.

The more you practice, the easier it gets on the mat and in front of camera.

As a female Brighton based portrait and event photographer I am on a mission to help heart-centred women in the wellness industry be more visible online and on social media with storytelling videos and images.

For that reason I don’t only create personal brand portrait images of yogis, yoga teachers and yoga instructors or their website and social media.

But I also capture them in their element during the wellness yoga day retreat or yoga classes, workshops or events, by blending in as a participant. Indoor in yoga the studio or outdoors in nature. Or a combination of both.

As a female portrait and event photographer, I prefers to blend into the scene rather than bring attention to myself and camera.

Yoga retreat at UK Sussex Innerbloom

I recently had the opportunity to participate (and document) a wellness, yoga and aromatherapy day retreat organised by Brighton based yoga teacher Rachel McDerott at Innerbloom yoga and fitness studio in UK Sussex countryside.

Rachel is a Brighton based yoga teacher, facilitator and student, retreat and wellness event organiser, essential oils lover and educator, mum of two.

She has been practising yoga for over twenty years and teaching for nearly six years.

She has practiced many diffrent styles of yoga with an intention to connect her mind and body and give herself the tools to have a more balanced life.

She is on mission to help women like us connect and create balance, physically and emotionally. She teaches with an open, honest and personal approach.

When we give ourselves permission to rest, to soften, to quiet down, then we become more productive.

It’s not about doing nothing.

It’s about giving yourself permission to rest in a way that is nourishing to your mind-body system.

By resting and recuperating your energy you are able to generate creative ideas for your next blog post, photoshoot, video recording, product launch or other venture.

During the retreat event, we practice Flow Yoga and restorative, Yin style practice followed by time for reflection, journaling, and then a delicious lunch.

What I loved the most is the combination of yoga, Innerbloom studio in nature and aromatherapy. Rachel loves sharing her knowledge about essential oils, reflexology points and Ayurveda.

The Innerbloom yoga and fitness studio is located in the heart of the South Downs in West Sussex, only 15 mins car drive from Brighton. One of the most beautiful places I have visited in the area. A place for focus, intent and mindfulness, perfect for your next upcoming workshop or retreat.

Meet your Sussex photographer and my story

I learned the importance of making space for rest as part of running my business as Brighton professional photographer after I burned out in the corporate world.

Since then I am scheduling wellness, yoga and meditation retreat events in advance and fitting my personal brand portrait photoshoots and commercial filming projects around this schedule.

Not the other way round.

What’s your favourite yoga practice?

Mine is restorative yin yoga and yoga nidra, as I’m on a journey to slow down. I recently tried aerial yoga which was fun!
