Personal branding portrait photographer in Shoreham beach with Brighton artist
Magdalena Smolarska
As a Brighton based professional female portrait photographer I am surrounded by creative business owners, artists, designers who are looking for more than a traditional “boring” headshot for their website.
They are looking for a personal brand photographer who is all about embracing their individuality in the most authentic way. And that’s my goal as a photographer and videographer during each indoor and outdoor photoshoot with purpose driven creative women.
I recently photographed Ellie Hipkin, a textile mixed media artist based in Sussex, Brighton & Hove, who’s work is inspired by the colours and textures of nature from the countryside to the coast. She is not only creating a beautiful artwork but also teaching others the you of mixed media art.
Portrait photoshoot inspiration and style
As a professional portrait photographer from Brighton I am always inspired by my clients stories. As an visual artist I am inspired by nature. Combining both elements perfectly defines my photography style.
Ellie’s creative process is very unique and inspired by nature. It involves layering, monoprint and free motion embroidery over the painted landscape scene to create depth, mood and atmosphere.
Learning more about her creative process has given me lots of ideas for the photography style that would go well with her branding.
Having in mind that it was her first professional brand portrait photoshoot, we kept the session simple:
one location (Shoram beach),
time: later afternoon to avoid crowds (golden hour),
few outfit changes
props inspired by nature and her creative process of course
I also loved this professional brand portrait photoshoot because it was so easy and natural without forced posing and trying hard. Ellie showed me what she’s passionate about and I captured those feelings and creative process with my camera via story telling, documentary style with a creative twist.
Location of the portrait photoshoot in sussex
Each portrait photoshoot with me is a unique creative experience and it can become the heart and soul behind the brand. For that reason I decided (with Ellie) to go foraging on the beach in Shoreham-By-Sea, only 10 minutes drive from Brighton and Hove, and we used it as a main location for our outdoor brand photoshoot.
On our walk together we found pebbles, shells, seaweed, seakale (I call them cabbages) and grasses which she uses as inspiration for her art and during the photoshoot they become part of the props.
This is just a sneak peek of the foraging process, more stories to come as we captured many beautiful pictures together during one afternoon.
Meet your Brighton based portrait photographer
Professional lifestyle brand or business headshot photoshoots don’t have to be awkward and posed. When I tap into what my client is passionate about they stop being self-conscious. Read more about my recent photoshoot: beyond the traditional headshot.
Each individual photoshoot is all about visually capturing your brand message and stories by creating high quality images and videos outside of the boring photography studio.
I love calling myself a visual artist rather professional personal branding portrait photographer and videographer because every photoshoot is unique from vision to execution.
We play with the light, we explore boundaries of how comfortable we are to express ourselves and our stories in front of the camera, we make mistakes… the photoshoot evolves.
