Personal brand portrait photoshoot with Money Business Coach from Brighton
Magdalena Smolarska
Why is money such an uncomfortable topic?
Why can’t we talk about money freely with friends or potential clients without feeling embarrassed, awkward and guilty?
I asked those questions to Margarita, a Money Coach and Entrepreneur from Sussex, during her professional personal brand portrait / informal headshot photoshoot with me at Projects co-working space in central Brighton.
We’ll come back to that in a minute, but first let me tell you how we approached her indoor portrait photoshoot.
The Vision: A personal brand portrait photoshoot with a Money/Business Coach from Brighton
Location of the personal brand photoshoot
I hired The Projects cosy co-working room as a location to reflect Margaritas soulful (rather than corporate) approach to her coaching style. I also wanted to create safe feeling environment for her first professional photoshoot.
The location perfectly reflects Margarit’s personal brand values, colours and her sensitive personality. This cozy living room offered privacy and multiple interesting backdrops for our photoshoot.
As we progressed with taking natural looking portraits and headshots we decided to take full advantage of the lovely sunny weather and shoot outdoors around Brighton Lanes while we continued chatting around the topic of money.
2. Photoshoot style and approach
We approached the portrait photo session in a very informal manner instead of taking the traditional formal business headshots images (read: How to make your headshots pop)
My intention was to capture Margarita’s lifestyle in her element: journaling, having client calls, reflecting and reading because she is alway surrounded by books.
3. Props used during the portriat photoshoot
We purposely didn’t use “money” as props during the portrait photoshoot as our vision was to re-create and introduce a positive relationship with money to her audience.
We replaced it with books which talked about abundance and money blocks, journal, laptop, mobile phone and anything else Margarita wished to bring with her which has some sort of symbolical meaning.
Learning to think about money in new ways is what sets you free
One of many questions I keep constantly asking myself as a female freelancer portrait photographer and online business owner is: how can I recognise and overcome my money blockages and create abundance and peace of mind so I’m fee to live my life to the full?
In Margarita’s mind our culture teaches us to measure people by money. She believes that we all grow up with a relationship to money. Yet the message around us, the message in our culture to do with money are confusing
As an example:
We measure success in terms of money, but we often resent those who achieve it.
Or . . .
We feel guilty when we don’t have (enough) money
We feel guilty when we have (enough) money
We feel guilty that we have (far beyond enough) money
We feel guilty that we want to have more money
I found it fascinating to learn more about the skill of dealing with money, by feeling grateful for receiving money, attracting abundance in life, and being open to receive even more when the time is right. Something I was never thought as a young woman.
