8 location spots you don't want to miss on your portrait photoshoot in Brighton and Hove Sussex UK
Magdalena Smolarska
When it comes to your next business portrait photoshoot, location is a key!
As a professional female photographer, Brighton is a photographers dream city for colourful, unique and vibrant personal brand portrait photoshoots, business headshots and lifestyle portraits.
For that reason Brighton attracts, not only creatives, but many established online female entrepreneurs and freelancers who travel far for a business portrait photoshoot with me. In order to take a full advantage of all my recommend photoshoot spots, which are walking distance from one-another, I always suggest to book a slightly longer session (longer than 1 hour).
Here are my top 8 location RECOMMENDATIONS for your next business headshot and portrait photo session around Brighton and hove, SUSSEX, UK:
Brighton colourful houses and beach huts photoshoot inspiration
When I think of Brighton, I think of rainbow inspired colourful buildings and streets.
No matter of what your brand colour is, I can guarantee I will find a matching building. Because Brighton is realativey small town, all those colourful streets are walking distance (only 5-10 min walk from Brighton beach).
But don’t worry, if your brand is more minimalistic and modern rather than big, bold and beautiful, there are beautiful streets with bright white buildings too.
2. Unique Brighton street art and graffitis photoshoot idea
If you, like me, love unique street art and graffiti (by local artists) then let me take you for a walk around Brighton.
Starting from the Brighton train station, down via the Trafalgar street, towards the North Lanes of Brighton, you can find the most well known colourful graffiti which is a perfect background for your brand portraits and headshots.
If you have a favourite piece of street art in mind as a location, you better rush to book your lifestyle personal brand photoshoot as high quality street art often gets covered up quickly.
3. Trendy cafes in Brighton and Hove area for a portrait photoshoot
Brighton is a famous for many laptop (and dog) friendly independent coffee shops.
When I select coffee place as locations for the photoshoot I always have in mind the energy of the space, the decor, backdrop colour and texture and I make sure it matches my clients brand.
This will enhance your brand story and showcase your unique personality and working style to your audience, followers and potential clients. You will certainly stand out in the online world.
As well, I like to avoid photoshoots around lunch time and peak time. The best time to have a portrait photoshoot in your local caffe around Brighton and Hove is a few minutes before closing time or just after opening time.
4. Brighton co-working spaces and meeting rooms for a photoshoot location
If you’re looking for more formal (yet engaging) business headshots then it’s worth considering a co-working space in Brighton and Hove as the location for your photoshoot.
Projects by Brighton beach is a co-working space and my go-to photoshoot location. I particularly like hiring the fully equipped meeting / conference rooms there. This way we can capture 1:1 clients meeting scenes or you in the action of running a business workshop or event.
5. Brighton hotel lobby
If you’re thinking to elevate your brand and attract high-end clients then taking pictures in a hotel lobby might be a good idea. Brighton has many quirky cozy hotels as well as big chain hotels to choose from for your big brand photoshoot day.
Some hotels don't allow photographers to do photoshoots in their public spaces without permission so I always speak with the reception and manager in advance.
6. Brighton pier photoshoot
If you wish to inject some fun, joy and bold colours into your brand lifestyle portrait images then let’s stop by Brighton pier and take a few pictures there.
7. Brighton seafront
Brighton beach and seafront itself is the biggest attraction of Brighton and Hove so it’s no surprise that many of my clients choose it as main location of their portrait photoshoot. It’s not a sandy beach, yet it has it own charm.
Photographer tip:
The biggest misconception is that you need blue sky and full sun around lunch time for a successful photoshoot. Its’ quite the opposite. Because of the strong sun on the beach and water reflection you might find difficult to fully open your eyes. Hence I love to finish the photoshoot in Brighton on the beach at the sunset or start the portrait photo session in the morning to catch a stunning sunrise.
8. Brighton pavilion gardens
As a personal brand portrait photographer I am on mission to capture you in your element in multiple backdrops and locations so it doesn’t look like all the pictures where taken in one day. As well, with my love of nature I always make sure I take few pictures with a green background.
There are a few hidden green areas around Brighton town I tend to stop by for few minutes there.
