Top 7 tips to improve your dating profile picture by female portrait photographer
Magdalena Smolarska
Here is the thing! Whether we like or not, first impressions really matter when it comes to visibility and online dating profile pictures.
A professional photo session and photos can be a great investment. After all, a professional lifestyle portrait photographer with an expensive camera and years of experience will know how to capture your personality, convey your story and bring out your best qualities.
But there’s a catch!
You really don’t want pro photos that do not look like you as they are too posed, stylised, fake and unnatural. You do not want to look like a model. It’ll make you seem vain.
You really do not want photos that looks like they have been taken during one photo session.
You really don’t want photos that looks like you have specially hired a photographer for it.
You should aim to create pro quality photos with a photographer which are authentic, casual looking yet fun. I would love to help you with it.
Here are my top 7 tips to improve your dating profile picture (by female portrait photographer).
You really don’t have to look straight into the camera.Candid photos, capturing you in the moment: either walking on the beach, drinking coffee, running (if you are into sports) or reading your favourite book, are much more authentic and reveal more information about you.
2. Wear something colourful rather black and white or choose colourful background. It instantly makes the photos more attractive and interesting.
3. Bring a change of outfits and different accessories. Just by adding a scarf, different pair of earrings, adding or removing a jacket or a cardigan will give you several different looks.
Suddenly, pictures do not look like they have been taken during one photo session.
4. Choose your favourite outdoor location which truly reflects you, your personality and lifestyle. From a quirky street corner, graffiti, your favourite coffee shop, beach or nearest park. I take my clients for a walk, we explore Brighton or London and take pictures.
5. Why not incorporate some props? Think about holding something you love and that reflects you and your passion or hobby.
Briefcase with laptop if your background is corporate.
Or your favourite book or journal if that’s your area of interest.
It provides an interesting talking point. It instantly reveals a little more about you.
6. Wear your favourite outfits. I often ask people to bring outfits that would be suitable for a first date, so people can get a good impression of what it would be like to meet them.
Wear something comfortable, casual rather than too stylish.
First impressions matter but you do not want to go overboard with buying a brand new wardrobe especially for the photo session.
7. And do not forget to smile. Do not forget to enjoy the experience. Just relax and enjoy the photo session.
Do you feel uncomfortable in front of camera?
I feel you, I hear you, I see you…. I have been there too…
Together we can tell your story through images which feel truly authentic and soulful.
A gentle, joyful and authentic way of capturing the real you, your passion, your brand,
Tell me your STORY, who you are , what is your passion. I will capture it for you.
