Tango passion and community spirit with Leigh Tango through the eyes of dancer and photographer
Although I enjoy dancing in large European cities, I love the fact that Argentine Tango flourishes in small towns too and brings people together in communities.
This spirit of community really enchants me and I have received a lot of inspiration from my personal brand photo sessions with Leigh Tango.
Building a sustainable tango community in the South East seaside town of Leigh-on-Sea was Samira and Luis’ vision back in 2014. The school was initially created to introduce traditional tango to those who had never danced Argentine tango before.
Today, Leigh Tango is a blooming tango school and friendly community bringing people together and supporting their growth as dancers.
Through Leigh Tango, Samira and Luis wish to share their passion for this beautiful social dance in the spirit of community. Here you will find warm and welcoming teachers who take great care in making everyone feel included, valued and heard.
Their school is a place where students have the opportunity to grow as dancers but also as individuals, develop their own style and find their path. More than just teachers, Samira and Luis act as guides on your tango journey!
As a social dancer myself, I strongly believe in the power of community within the dance world. I love being involved in a supportive, welcoming and collaborative environment. It makes me feel part of something bigger and helps me feel relaxed in milongas. It also gives me the opportunity to build long-lasting relationships with dancers and have regular partners to practice with.
I had a privilege to meet Samira & Luis not only during our two brand photo sessions but also on the dance floor.
We decided to have an outdoor photo session in the heart of Leigh-on-Sea to connect and engage better with the local community. And although I do not live in Leigh on sea I already feel like a member of the community!
So... If you are looking for something new to do in Leigh on Sea (only 50min away from and to London), get active in the evening and socialise with a warm and friendly group, Leigh Tango is for you!
The school welcomes all regular attendees as well as new members. You do not need any dance experience or a partner to join the community.
Why not give it a try!
But be warned, you will most likely be seduced by the experience and will never look back!
The Argentine Tango school offers group classes, private lessons, practicas and milongas.
Classes take place on Thursday evenings at Strictly Smartz Studio located 1a Elm Road in Leigh on Sea SS9 1SW.
The classes are followed by a social practice session (‘practica’) with drinks and nibbles which is highly recommended if you wish to deepen your tangoknowledge, practice what you learn and gain experience.

Leigh Tango’s next milonga will take place on 24th November and will be the last milonga of 2018. Looking forward to see you all there!
